Studies on the Prevention of Lime - Nitrogen Damage and its Nutritional Effect on Young Apple Trees

Abstract
It has been recognized that lime-nitrogen is highly effective in supplying N and Ca with plants.
Recently severe damage from lime-nitrogen took place in some apple orchards located in Taegu: This experiment has been conducted to determine the favorable period of lime-nitrogen application and its fertility using two year-old Jonathan apple trees
The results obtained were summarized as follows:
1) The critical application period that did not exhibit the lime-nitrogen damage was 15, April.
2) The symptoms were mainly leaf marginal chlorosis and necrosis, proceeding to yellowing and finally to leaf fall.
3) The earlier the treated period of lime-nitrogen, the better the growth of trees.
4) Trees suffered from the toxicity of lime-nitrogen in the young leaf stage showed a poorer growth than those in the developed leaf stage
5) The contents of N and Ca in leaves were increased by lime-nitrogen application, while K decreased.
